Painting a Colourful Doorway

Painting with watercolour using techniques to create texture with vibrant granulating colours.

Service Description

Denise will demonstrate how to use a variety of techniques to achieve texture in your paintings and show you how to use vibrant colours in a new doorway project. Learn how to use splattering, cling film, wax resist and salt to create exciting mark making and textures. The techniques will be demonstrated and you can apply them in a painting of vibrant colourful old doorway complete with old peeling paint and cracked plaster around the doorway. The day focuses on painting so a detailed sketch of the doorway will be provided for you to trace on to watercolour paper, you can do a freehand sketch if you prefer. Denise will demonstrate how to paint the doorway in step by step demonstrations throughout the day. You will be given guidance notes and photos to paint from. Suitable for anyone with some watercolour painting experience and anyone who has completed the beginners watercolour day that I teach. You need to bring: A ceramic palette or an old white plate for mixing colours, a pencil, 2 large jam jars, a board to tape your paper to, Arches or Saunders 300gsm/140lb ROUGH cotton watercolour paper size quarter imperial (11x15inches). Cotton watercolour paper will be available to buy on the day. Please bring any watercolours colours that you already have. Denise uses : Yellows:Cadmium yellow pale or Winsor yellow Blues:Winsor Blue & Cobalt Reds:Permanent rose, Burnt Sienna or Quin Burnt Orange and Sepia. Opaque white or a fine nib white Posca pen. Granulation Medium Arrive from 9.45am, demonstration will start at 10am and we finish at 4pm. Please bring your own lunch, there are local shops (Costa, Co-op etc). Free tea, coffee and biscuits, including gluten free, will be available all day. The workshop will be held in the large light and airy Wilkinson room at St John's Church, Hills Road, Cambridge. There is free parking at the rear of the Church which is accessible from Blinco Grove. The Church is a 15min walk from the railway station. Cancellation Policy

Once you have booked a place it is allocated for the term or one day workshop. You are able to cancel up to one week before the course/workshop starts and I will refund your fee. After that point if you have to cancel I will try to fill your place but if I cannot do so there is no refund.
